Rainier Lab

An independent software workspace

Useful tools.
Understandable systems.

A small place for practical software work, technical writing, and the notes that make a system easier to maintain.

What we work on

Our work starts with everyday friction: a useful document that is hard to find, a repeated task that needs too many steps, or a service that is difficult to understand when it stops working. We prefer small tools with a clear purpose and an operating process that another person can follow.

That means spending time on the quieter parts of software: readable documentation, careful data handling, sensible defaults, and a recovery path. A working feature is only useful when the people maintaining it can explain what it does and how to restore it.

01

Software

Focused utilities and integrations that reduce repeated work while keeping the underlying information accessible.

02

Documentation

Plain language guides, tested procedures, and records of the decisions that continue to matter.

03

Field notes

Short observations from maintaining services and building personal tools. Start with our notes on reliable software.

Small enough to understand

We favor a complete, understandable solution over a long feature list. Our working approach describes how we choose scope, document changes, and keep projects maintainable.
